Plants from the Woods & Forests of Chile by Martin F. Gardner, Paulina Hechenleitner V. & Josefina Hepp C.
Plants From The Woods And Forests Of Chile is written by Martin Gardner of RBGE in collaboration with Paulina Hechenleitner and Josefina Hepp Co-founders of Fundación Chilco (Chile) and Josefina Hepp. For Gardner, who was awarded an MBE for his conservation work, especially on Chilean plants, this is the culmination of a long association in the South American country. As well as being on the advisory board of the Chilean NGO Fundación Chilco, and a Trustee of Rainforest Concern, he part-owns a 2,000 hectare Monkey Puzzle forest in Chile.
The exquisite volume featuring 81 unique commissioned watercolour paintings represents the skills and observations of three talented award-winning artists. Gülnur Ekşi, Işık Güner and Hülya Korkmaz have painstakingly and accurately recorded the minutest of details to bring alive the beautiful plant life from a fascinating part of the world. This, the first book to be published in English solely dedicated to Chilean plants, includes authoritative non-technical text on trees, shrubs, herbaceous and bulbous plants.
Martin Gardner says: “I have long been fascinated by the flora of Chile, where there are so many unique and spectacular plants. This is partly as a result of the climate, geographic isolation and adaptation to specialist pollinators such as the hummingbird. I am extremely proud of this book and honoured to have the artists take so much time producing the wonderful illustrations”.
