That the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh was originally founded as a Physic Garden in 1670 is well known, and James Sutherland’s Hortus Medicus Edinburgensis catalogues the quite extraordinary diversity of botanicals that were being nurtured for medicine making in Edinburgh at that time. What is less well known, is how these herbs were being compounded into remedies. With selected extracts translated from the earliest editions of the Edinburgh Pharmacopoeia, we will complete that missing link for the first time since the 17th century in this one-day workshop. Taught by Catherine Conway-Payne.

This is an adult education workshop so participants must be 16+
