Poster from the exhibition Redouté's Roses, opened as part of Edinburgh International Festival in 1991. Belgian botanist Pierre-Joseph Redouté was known for his botanical watercolour paintings, especially roses and lilies. He was the official court painter of Marie Antoinette and was nicknamed as "the Raphael of flowers" since he was considered one of the most talented botanical artists that ever lived. His pioneering artworks changed the field of botanical painting forever and gave inspiration to many other botanical artists.
