It is well known that The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh was founded as a physic garden in 1670, and James Sutherland’s Hortus Medicus Edinburgensis catalogues the quite extraordinary diversity of botanicals that were being nurtured for medicine making in Edinburgh at that time. What is less well known is how these herbs were being made into remedies. Using selected extracts translated from the earliest editions of the Edinburgh Pharmacopoeia, we will complete that missing link for the first time since the 17th century in this one-day workshop.
