Sangha trees : an illustrated identification manual

[Les Arbres de la Sangha: manuel d'Identification illustre]

By David J. Harris & Alexandra H. Wortley

ISBN: 978-1-906129-13-2

In Central Africa, there exists very little taxonomic information on plants, particularly in a format suitable for local users.  Sangha Trees attempts to address this scarcity of information, by functioning as both an identification guide and a training manual with which the characters most useful for identification at different taxonomic levels may be learned.  It is targeted at biologists in need of accurate identifications and scientific names for trees.

This guide was written as part of a project funded by the UK Darwin Initiative, the aim of which was to increase capacity for identifying the trees of the northern Republic of Congo (Brazzaville).  A large part of the project involved supplying resources and documentation supporting both training and identification, of which Sangha Trees is a major component.  The book is based on research carried out between 1987 and 2007 in Cameroon, Congo (Brazzaville) and the Central African Republic.
