After the Storm
On 3 January 2012, Cyclone Andrea swept across Scotland leaving a trail of destruction in its wake. In the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh (RBGE), winds of over 100 mph uprooted and injured over 30 trees.
This book accompanies an exhibition of the same name that ran in the John Hope Gateway from December 2016 to May 2017 and considers the legacy of this dramatic event and explores the theme of regeneration, recovery and resilience following a storm.
The book includes essays by Robert Penn (author of The Man Who Made Things Out of Trees) on forest bathing, Jonathan Rose (chair of the Scottish Furniture Makers Association) on his tsunami cabinet, Ian Edwards on the importance of disturbance in driving change and a photo essay by Patricia Macdonald on regeneration.
